Hey,
I am Soheil Hūman (/soˈheɪl huːˈmæn/, Persian: سهیل هومن).
Welcome to my personal academic website.
My work is centred on human needs satisfaction; it is inherently interdisciplinary, with a particular focus on developmental needs and the satisfaction of needs across diverse contexts, ranging from infants to other humans, and extending to collective entities such as communities and organisations.
I have an interdisciplinary background spanning Cognitive Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Philosophy, and Sociology [of Science and Technology]. Currently, I serve as an Assistant Professor and Director of the Sustainable Computing Lab at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Wien), a Network Associate of Vienna Cognitive Science Hub, a lecturer of Cognitive Science at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Vienna, the Director of Cognitive Science Austria—the largest community of cognitive science experts in Austria—an Associated Senior Scholar on Human Rights and Technology at Interdisciplinary Transformative University Austria (IT:U) in Linz, and an Associate Faculty member at TU Delft’s AI Futures Lab on Rights and Justice.
I lead and manage several interdisciplinary research projects and initiatives and teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, focusing on the needs, values, and rights in relation to human beings, particularly vulnerable populations such as children, and digital technologies — including their personal and societal impact.
Before joining WU Wien, I conducted research and managed multidisciplinary projects at various institutions, including Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien), Austrian Institute for Artificial Intelligence (OFAI), and Research Studios Austria (RSA). Beyond academia, I have provided coaching and consulting for over 40 start-ups and corporations, and I have contributed to numerous projects organized by national and international NGOs and agencies, such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
This website serves as a space—a portfolio—for my personal academic work, research, and contributions to academia. For those interested in my non-academic pursuits, you can visit my personal non-academic website at human.voyage, where I share my involvement in social initiatives, along with my creative endeavors, including artworks and literary pieces such as my poetry. Thank you for visiting.
